Border Patrol agents found a crying migrant toddler sitting alone in a cornfield on Tuesday, the Customs and Border Protection agency said.
The child had his name and some phone numbers written on his shoes, but NBC News reported that officials haven't yet found his parents.
The incident comes amid a surge of migrants apprehended at the US-Mexico border in recent months - many of whom are families with young children.

MCALLEN, Texas - U.S. Border Patrol agents found a 3-year-old boy alone in a field after likely being abandoned by smugglers at the southern border, authorities said.
U.S. Customs and Border Protection said late Tuesday that the boy's name and phone numbers were written on his shoes when agents found him that morning. The agency said it is trying to reach the boy's family.

MCALLEN, Texas - Authorities say U.S. Border Patrol agents found a 3-year-old boy alone in a field, and that he was likely left by smugglers at the southern border.
U.S. Customs and Border Protection says the boy's name and phone numbers were written on his shoes when agents found him Tuesday morning. The agency says it is trying to reach the boy's family.
The Border Patrol apprehended nearly 9,000 unaccompanied minors just in March, as border crossings surged compared to recent levels.

A 3-year-old boy was all by himself in the middle of a cornfield on the Texas border when Border Patrol agents found him Tuesday, US Customs and Border Protection officials said.
The boy was crying, and had his name and phone numbers written on his shoes. The agency tweeted out an image indicating they were still trying to reach the child's family.
