In some of his final days as mayor, Martin Walsh appointed East Boston resident and Boston Public Schools graduate Ernani DeAraujo to the school committee, filling a vacant seat left by former chair Michael Loconto.
“BPS was like a rocket ship to the career I have now and the stability I have now so I've always wanted to get back,” DeAraujo told the Herald.
DeAraujo, who was sworn in Thursday, is the first East Boston resident to sit on the committee and is the vice president of regulatory affairs and general counsel at the East Boston Neighborhood Health Center.
