A tiger at the Bronx Zoo in New York City has tested positive for SARS-CoV-2, the virus that causes COVID-19 in people, according to the United States Department of Agriculture's National Veterinary Services Laboratories. The big cat is thought to be the first tiger infected with the virus, according to the USDA.
The tiger was tested for the virus after several of the zoo's lions and tigers started showing signs of respiratory illness, according to the USDA. The agency expects all of the cats are expected to recover.

NEW YORK - A tiger at the Bronx Zoo has tested positive for the coronavirus, in what is believed to be the first known infection in an animal in the U.S. or a tiger anywhere, federal officials and the zoo said Sunday.
