The U.S. Food and Drug Administration has granted Johnson & Johnson's single-dose coronavirus vaccine emergency use authorization, clearing the way for it to be administered to Americans and adding a third shot to fight against the pandemic.
The FDA announced the move in a tweet Saturday evening.
The vaccine operates on an adenovirus vector platform and does not require ultra-cold storage. It was found to be 66% effective in reducing moderate to severe coronavirus and 85% effective against the most serious illness.
