Battenfeld: Charlie Baker taking stubborn gamble on school mask policy

Gov. Charlie Baker stubbornly clinging to a plan to let Massachusetts school kids go maskless could backfire if coronavirus cases fueled by the new delta variant continue to skyrocket past this summer.
Baker is taking a risk that he'll have to reverse his decision later this year if more and more schools and teachers, like in Boston, go with a mask mandate.
No one wants to wear a mask anymore, but Baker has continuously said he'll go with the science to determine his coronavirus policy decisions.
